For the 2019 edition of the Journées de la culture, the École de joaillerie de Montréal invites the public to come and visit us on Sunday, September 29, where 32 visitors* will have the opportunity to participate in a jewellery workshop led by our volunteer students.
Participants can come with friends or partners and create a pair of silver friendship rings, with the help of jewellery students who will be able to assist them through the entire process. The instructors will explain and demonstrate all stages of fabrication and guide you through all the steps of production, including forming, soldering and finishing.
The public will also be invited to discover the exhibition Migrations, which will take place at the Espace galerie from September 26 to October 24, 2019. The exhibition will highlight the work of students and graduates from abroad, whose journey has stopped at the École de joaillerie de Montréal. In addition to highlighting cultural influences specific to each of them, this exhibition will demonstrate how creation can become an engine of integration into a new place of residence, through encounters, but also through self-expression. The artists presented are Gayane Avetisyan (Armenia), Doriane Douared (Guadeloupe), Dominika Durtan (Poland), Leyla Ghiastalab (Iran), Ana Kusmic (Bosnia), Maëva Lacombe (Saint-Martin), Olga Leclair (Russia), Anaëlle Lepont (France), Tolkyn Makatova (Kazakhstan), Maria Teresa Parra (Venezuela) and Caroline Rivière (New Caledonia).
An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Thursday, September 26th, from 5-7 pm.
Both the ring making workshop and the exhibition visit are free of charge, and are aimed at introducing the public to the world of handmade jewellery.
