The 13 graduates of the Cégep du Vieux Montréal’s jewellery program will present their graduation projects at MAI, 3680 rue Jeanne-Mance, from June 14th to 17th, 2018. The vernissage will take place on Thursday June 14th at 5:30pm.
The projects on display are ensemble works consisting of a necklace, a bracelet, and a piece of the student’s choice; either a ring, a brooche, or earrings, and are designed and produced by the students who applied the techniques learned throughout their 3 years of training. Thus, the pieces presented offer an insight into the affinities between materials, processes and styles particular to each student.
Projects made and selected by 1st and 2nd year students will also be part of the exhibition. The École de joaillerie de Montréal is delighted with its partnership with MAI, whose spacious gallery will house a total of one hundred pieces.
The theme “J’ai oublié qu’on avait une rencontre” refers to the effervescence of student life and its many work appointments. In this sense, the 2018 cohort, a group of young professionals focused on their technical and aesthetic practice rather than on meetings relating to theory or methodology, imagined an exhibition highlighting all their creative potential and their manual skills.
